A hearty soup that seems to glow with an otherworldly light. The mushrooms used in this recipe are said to have been blessed by the druids of Yester Hill.

I discovered this recipe quite by accident during one of my visits to Yester Hill. The druids were initially suspicious of me - they tend to be wary of outsiders, especially those who come bearing recipes instead of offerings. But my knowledge of herbs and my respect for their traditions won them over. I spent three days in their camp, learning to identify the special mushrooms that grow only in the shadow of the great tree. The head druid, a woman with eyes as ancient as the hills themselves, taught me how to listen to the mushrooms. 'They'll tell you when they're ready to be picked,' she said, 'if you know how to listen.' I've been making this soup ever since, though I must admit, sometimes the mushrooms seem to... move on their own. Best not to think about that too much while eating! The first time I served it to a group of adventurers, they spent the next three hours having the most fascinating conversations with what they claimed were the spirits of the forest. Whether that was the mushrooms or the wine they'd been drinking beforehand, I couldn't say. The druids still invite me back every year during the harvest moon to help gather the special mushrooms. They say my Vistani blood gives me a special connection to the land. I think they just like my cooking.

The mushrooms used in this recipe are harvested from the sacred grove of Yester Hill, where they grow in the shadow of the great tree. The druids believe these mushrooms contain the essence of the land itself, and they use them in their most important rituals.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups wild mushrooms
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 4 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 cup cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp druid herbs
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • Salt and pepper
  • Fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Sauté mushrooms and onions
  2. Add garlic and herbs
  3. Pour in broth and wine
  4. Simmer for 1 hour
  5. Blend until smooth
  6. Finish with cream
  7. Garnish with fresh herbs
